Rescue Fish info sessions

An invitation from New Zealand Sport Fishing Council

Following interest at the Waiheke Marine Project Future Search Hui public expo, the New Zealand Sport Fishing Council will be hosting fisheries policy reform information and discussion sessions at the Waiheke Sustainability Centre from 3-5 pm Friday 4th December, and 1-3 pm Friday 11th December. Restoring abundance to New Zealand's coastal fisheries is the drive behind the 'Rescue Fish' proposal for fisheries reform. Put simply; Rescue Fish means more fish in the sea!

The first hour will be a drop in screening of a documentary examining the real cost of fishing under a Quota Management System (QMS) and the resulting decline in our coastal fisheries. The documentary explores how the QMS has failed to adequately protect our marine environment or maintain abundance and ecosystem function for many exploited species. There will then be a 15-minute presentation on the Rescue Fish proposal for national fisheries reform, hopefully, followed by some discussion and input from the Waiheke community.

Info session 4th December 2020 at Waiheke Sustainability Centre - Oneroa, 3pm until 5pm

Info session 11th December 2020 at Waiheke Sustainability Centre - Oneroa, 1pm until 3pm
