What is Future Search?

Future Search is a globally utilised, large scale planning event which brings the ‘whole system’ into the room. It is an action based, facilitated, programme to find common ground across diverse voices.

The multi day Future Search event in Spring 2020  will bring together approximately 70+ people to dialogue, reach common ground and agree action to protect and regenerate the marine environment of Waiheke Island.

The event is by-invitation to 70+ people, a number that achieves the sweet spot of diversity and practicality to dialogue with multiple voices.

The Future Search planning group of diverse voices selected the 70+ Future Search participants after a period of ‘casting the net wide’ for voices from mana whenua, fishers & boaties, scientists, marine commercial operators, land interests, youth, conservationists, agencies & politicians and Waiheke locals.

As a result of the COVID-19 pandemic several planned dates for the Future Search needed to be postponed. With the Auckland area entering Level 1 during October it was held successfully from October 30th-1st November 2020.

Beyond Future Search

After the Future Search an equally Public Hui was held on 26th November 2020 at Morra hall.

It provided an opportunity to offer feedback on the outcomes of the Future Search hui and contribute to an eventual presentation to the Ministers of Conservation and Fisheries and the Ministerial Advisory Committee of Sea Change targeted in for early 2021.

After that the Waiheke Marine Project will change form into one that supports the collaborative actions generated by the Waiheke Community to protect and regenerate the seas around Waiheke Island.

New Energy 2021

On the 27th of January 2021 the project work streams and new energy people reconnected to adjust the organisational structure and form working groups for the year. Phase two of the project is forming.
