Hemoata Brown

 Ko Waimamaku te awa

Ko Kai-a-te-whetu te maunga

Ko Te Whakamaharatanga te marae

Ko Hokianga te moana

Ko Mahuhu ki te rangi  te waka

Ko Whakatau Potiki  tōku tangata

Ko Te Aupouri, me Ngāti Kahu, me Te Rarawa ngā iwi tōku papa

Ko Ngā puhi, Ngāti Whātua ki Kaipara, Ngāti Paoa ngā iwi oku mātua

Ko Te Roroa, Ngāti Pou, Ngati Korokoro ngā Hāpū tōku mama

Ko Hemoata Brown ahau.

I'm Hemoata Brown and I am Manawhenua Kaimahi at the Waiheke Marine Project. I am passionate about bringing people together and leveraging their strengths for the greater good. The explicit commitment to Te Tiriti at WMP drew me to this position, and I can see how Te Tiriti is woven into their mahi.

My deep respect for the moana stems from my connection to South Hokianga. It is there that I learnt the true meaning of the whakatauki –

Toitū te marae a Tane-Mahuta, Toitū te marae a Tangaroa, Toitū te tangata.

If the land is well and the sea is well, people will thrive.
