Gather - Connect - Learn & Experience Te Matuku Marine Reserve

The Event
Te Matuku Marine Reserve is located in the far south east corner of Waiheke Island, and protects one of Waiheke largest estuaries. Te Matuku Bay was settled by Ngāti Pāoa i nga wā o mua, and holds an incredible and fascinating amount of Ngāti Pāoa History.
Hosted by the Waiheke Marine Project, this unique event is to provide Ngāti Pāoa who live both on and off the Island, an opportunity to to gather and connect as a hapu and iwi, learn about the history of Te Matuku Bay, and experience the marine reserve by stand up paddleboard or kayak.
This intimate event is exclusive to Ngāti Pāoa. With only 28 people (two groups of 14) being able to experience the beautiful Te Matuku Marine Reserve by water, this is a unique and very special opportunity to be a part of. Other activities TBC.
The Details
Date: Sunday 12 Dec 2021
Time: 9am to 5.30pm
Venue: Te Matuku Stock Yards, Waiheke Island.
Inclusions: Ferry tickets, transport to and from Te Matuku Stockyards, morning tea, lunch and afternoon tea.
Cost: This event is complimentary to those who attend however please note places are strictly limited and offered on a first come first served basis. Spaces are limited to 28 people for Paddle boarding, and 40 people max.
Exclusions: Accommodation. This is a 1 day event.
Important details
This event is open to all Ngāti Pāoa, and is suitable for ages 10years+, all rangatahi under 18 years are to be accompanied by an adult (1 adult: 1 rangatahi).
If paddle boarding, some swimming ability is required.

Cancellations
If you are no longer able to attend please aim to give us as much notice as possible (at least 7 days) so we are able to give your valuable spot to someone else.
Covid/Levels & Restrictions
This event will only proceed at level 2, when gatherings are permitted. Should this not be the case, an alternative date has been set for January 2022. Vaccination requirements are TBC at this stage until we have further guidance from the government. If bad weather does not make it possible to go ahead with the event, an alternative date will be announced.
